Enhancing Discovery for Trip Planners

With over 1 billion monthly active users, Google Maps stands as one of the top navigation platforms worldwide. And for trip planners, the tool is integral to how they prepare for upcoming adventures. Yet when observing Google Maps users, I noticed:
Many trip planners don't start on the tool to discover where to go in a new city.


Google Maps is missing an opportunity to fully serve the needs of trip planners because they don’t have the adequate tools to discover and decide on places to visit confidently. This results in a disconnected user experience & lower app usage overall.


City Specialties highlights the top things a city is known for, guiding trip planners on where to focus their attention. It also uses transparency and authority to help users trust the feature as a whole.
